CompuCycle is Sponsor for ABC 13 Earth Day
HOUSTON - CompuCycle along with Shell and Port of Houston sponsored ABC13's Earth Day Houston 2011 E-cycling Drive. The drive took place Friday, April 15th from 6 am to 2 pm at ABC 13 Studios, 3310 Bissonnet. Over 1,000 cars dropped off e-waste.

HOUSTON - There is no shortage of places to drop off 'e-waste,' which includes discarded computers, televisions and other electronic items, but only one facility in northwest Houston has achieved R2 Certification accredited by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Compucycle, Inc. on Kempwood Drive near Wirt Road has been awarded the Responsible Electronics Recycler (R2) Certification, accredited by the EPA. The certification requires the company to adhere to strict "environmental, worker health and safety, and security guidelines."

CompuCycle to be E-waste vendor for TRASHOFF BAYTOWN 2011
The City of Baytown continued it's green initiatives with TRASHOFF Baytown 2011, which included a Household Hazardous Waste Collection as well as an Electronic Waste Collection. The drive was Saturday, April 2, 2011 from 9am to 3pm at the City of Baytown Storage Facility located at 1200 Lee Dr. (Corner of Riggs St.). For more information see flyers below.
CompuCycle to be vendor for League City E-Waste and Shredding Event
The City of League City is continuing its Lean.Clean.Green. Initiative with a document shredding and e-waste event for the residents and businesses of League City. “Technology changes rapidly and people are always upgrading their gadgets. This event is a way to ensure that those items don’t end up in a landfill,” said Mike Tubbs, Manager of the League City Recycling Center. The
event will be held Saturday, March 26th 2011, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at 1535 Dickinson Ave directly behind the League City Recycling Center.

Mary Benton visited CompuCycle for Thursday's press conference and gave a glimpse into the break down of end-of-life TVs. Mary explains how "every year about 20 million TV sets in this country are disposed of, but only about 18% are even recycled. Pat Hernandez provides insight into the issues surrounding e-waste and e-recycling with coverage from Thursday's press conference. CompuCycle's Clive Hess and local officials are interviewed. Texas Representative Carol Alvarado explains that the goal behind the legislation to require TV manufacturer take-back programs, HB 821, is "to remind people that I could be harming the environment if I don't dispose of this correctly, and TVs can be recycled so, that's the environmentally green friendly thing to do."
